The club glider fleet is comprised entirely of Schleicher aircraft. These aircraft are straightforward to maintain and are well suited to making the most of the weak to moderate thermal activity which is typical of Irish gliding conditions.

The most recent additions to the club fleet are a sleek K-21 dual seat trainer added in November 2002 and a second tug added in September 2003.

Photo Registration Type Details
EI 150 ASK-21 The most recent glider to enter the club fleet, the K21 is an extremely docile trainer with a higher load capacity and better cross country performance than the ASK-13's.

EI 112
EI 143

ASK-13 Popular because of their docile behaviour and solid build, these aircraft have been responsible for sending many new student pilots on their first adventures into the air and on to first solo flights.
EI 108
EI 133
Ka-8 Once early solos have been completed in dual seat aircraft, students move onto flying EI-108 (the 'yellow 8') and EI-133 (the 'red 8'). These are the first introduction the pilots have to single seat solo flying and allow the new pilots to perfect their soaring skills and start on the road to achieving their Bronze, Silver and Gold badges.
EI BIK Piper Super Cub EI-BIK is the club's tug and work horse responsible for getting the gliders into the air. The Cub is modified to permit aerotow launching, taking the gliders to the initial 2000 ft before release to soaring flight.
G-AVOO Piper Super Cub "Terry Mac" is the most recent addition to the club fleet, having arrived in September 2003. It is essentially identical to EI-BIK.

Club Glider Performance
For those who are interested in comparing numbers, the following table gives some performance information for gliders in the club fleet. (Most of the data was obtained from the sailplane directory.)

Evolution of the fleet
The makeup of the fleet has changed gradually over the lifetime of the club. Some aircraft have been notable for the duration of their service. The record holder (at more than 40 years) was a Ka-7, EI-105. It was recently sold to a syndicate hoping to start gliding in Co. Roscommon.

The club fleet has tended to be quite stable for long periods of time before undergoing significant change in a short few years. The club may well have entered such a period of change with the acquisition of EI-150 (the ASK-21) and the sale of EI-105 both having taken place since November 2002.
