The club glider
fleet is comprised entirely of Schleicher aircraft. These
aircraft are straightforward to maintain and are well suited to
making the most of the weak to moderate thermal activity which is
typical of Irish gliding conditions.
The most recent additions to the club fleet are
a sleek K-21 dual seat trainer added in November 2002 and a second
tug added in September 2003.

Club Glider Performance
For those who are interested in comparing numbers, the following
table gives some performance information for gliders in the club
fleet. (Most of the data was obtained from the sailplane
directory.)

Evolution of the fleet
The
makeup of the fleet has changed gradually over the lifetime of the
club. Some aircraft have been notable for the duration of their
service. The record holder (at more than 40 years) was a Ka-7, EI-105.
It was recently sold to a syndicate hoping to start gliding in Co.
Roscommon.
The club fleet has tended to be quite stable for
long periods of time before undergoing significant change in a short
few years. The club may well have entered such a period of change
with the acquisition of EI-150 (the ASK-21) and the sale of EI-105
both having taken place since November 2002.
