EI-BIK Piper PA-18 150
This is the aircraft that the club uses as a tow aircraft. Also known as the Piper Super cub, it is a two-seat, single-engine, high-winged, tail-wheel aircraft. The Super Cub has one pilot who has trained extensively to fly powered, tail-wheel aircraft. This model of the Super Cub is equipped with a large 180 HP engine especially made for towing gliders. The aircraft is not built out of aluminium that one would find on commercial aircraft, or our fibreglass gliders, but made using a special technique of building airframes using a framework of steel tubing to form the shape of the fuselage and covering the framework with a special fabric which helps to reduce weight of the aircraft. The super cub is the ideal candidate for towing gliders out of the Dublin Gliding Club as its powerful and reliable characteristics ensures that we can fly all year round (weather permitting).
